About Mathematics for Machine Learning

I’m Ivelin Likov, a Computing graduate currently completing a Master’s in Applied Artificial Intelligence.

Why I built it

I created Mathematics for Machine Learning (math4ml.co) because so many people want to learn AI and machine learning but get stuck on the mathematics behind them. Textbooks tend to assume you already know calculus and linear algebra, and videos are easy to watch but hard to actually practise. I wanted something that starts from zero and makes the maths genuinely click.

The goal

The aim isn’t only to teach maths — it’s to show how algebra, statistics, probability and calculus connect to real AI, data and machine-learning concepts, in a way that’s clear, practical and beginner-friendly. Every lesson ends with a short note on where that idea actually shows up in machine learning, so the maths never feels abstract for its own sake.

What Mathematics for Machine Learning is: a self-paced, interactive course — six courses and 151 lessons, each with a plain-language explanation, a draggable figure to build intuition, and unlimited auto-graded practice. The Foundations course is free forever; Pro unlocks the rest, and there’s a free trial with no card needed to start.
